Brian Boot - I have been modelling for over 60 years now and I am still learning! I model anything that takes my fancy, planes, trains, boats, helicopters, cars etc., etc. I seem to be unique in one way with my modelling - it is the overwhelming desire to make them come to life in one way or another. So I have learned lots about miniature motors, lighting systems and gearing combinations. My other interest that helps my modelling skills is the art of making my own decals. Having had a great interest in graphics and photography it led me into the vast possibilities that home made decals presents and I find it is only limited by imagination.(I have produced an introduction to making and printing your own decals which can be found here Notes on Decal Making which I hope you find useful).
I mainly produce 1/32nd scale aircraft and aviation has been my main interest since serving in the R.A.F. in the 1950's. At present though, I am building Donald Campbell's 'Bluebird' World Record Breaking car in 1/20th scale. It is a mainly scratch-built model with a cut-away detailed Proteus turboprop engine with many working features. I'm also building a 1/72nd scale Bristol Brabazon with a nearly 3 foot wingspan! It will have 4 engine pods, each containing gearing to produce counter-rotating propellers powered by miniature-geared 3 volt motors.
I belong to three clubs at present, The Association of London Modellers, the IPMS Farnborough and last but not least, the West Middlesex Scale Model Club. I enjoy greatly the club meetings and learning new or improved ways of using the many skills needed to become a good modeller. I have certainly improved my modelling efforts in recent years and recommend any model maker, new or old, to join a club for the many benefits they provide.
